Our professional package is for those who are serious about a career in web design. It will train you to the highest level in the advanced subjects of web design and development. You will have a wide skill set upon completion and be able to command a higher salary than basic web designers.

CGI/Perl - CGI stands for Common Gateway Interface, and is the main way that Web applications obtain information submitted on a Web page. Perl is the computer programming language used to process the information handed to it by the CGI and display any necessary output.

ColdFusion - ColdFusion is an piece of software known as an "application server". It is made by Macromedia (now Adobe), and allows you to write and run code written using CFML (ColdFusion Markup Language). It has good integration with Dreamweaver and Flash, and its most common use is to extract and process data from databases.

Dreamweaver - This software is the industry standard in web design being used by the vast majority of designers and agencies. The course will take you from the very basics right through to the more advanced features. By the end of the course you will have a fully functional website to add to your portfolio.

Versions covered; MX, MX 2004 and 8.

DHTML - Dynamic HTML refers to the use of Javascript to modify elements on a Web page, by manipulating the layout of the page (known as the Document Object Model, or DOM). It is used for elements on a page that must change on a regular basis; for example, navigation menus, clocks and tooltips.

Flash - Flash is the industry's most advanced authoring environment for creating interactive websites, digital experiences and mobile content. Creative professionals design and author interactive content rich with video, graphics, and animation for truly unique, engaging websites, presentations or mobile content.

Versions covered; MX, MX 2004 and 8.

Frontpage - Microsoft FrontPage is a WYSIWYG web page editor and website administration tool from Microsoft. It is part of Microsoft Office and is included in some versions of the bundle. It can also be purchased separately. Although design agencies prefer Dreamweaver, this is a great tool for beginners and is included for your benefit.

GUI Design - The GUI is the interface with which a user interacts with a program (hence "Graphical User Interface"). A well designed user interface is essential to let users easily navigate and use your program with the minimal amount of training. This course will teach you the fundamentals of designing a GUI, including planning the interface, developing it (including human-interface guidlines, use of colour and typography) and elements such as forms and other controls.

HTML - HTML or Hyper Text Markup Language is the building block of websites. It is the code behind the images and layout that you see when you view a site. Knowledge of HTML will allow you to build a website using only your computers word pad feature. Most website errors are caused by improperly formatted code so learning HTML is essential if you want to produce clear and well laid out websites.

Java - Java is a programming environment created by Sun Microsystems for creating applications that run regardless of which operating system the user is using. Its most common use is for "applets", which are small applications which run in a web page. The most common uses of Java applets are for online banking, online games and mobile phone/PDA (often called J2ME) applications.

Photoshop - Adobe Photoshop is the professional image-editing standard. It is the current market leader for commercial bitmap and image manipulation for both print and the world wide web.

Versions covered; CS and 7.

PHP - PHP is a programming language used for the creation of dynamic webpages by writing small programs called 'scripts' that run on a web server. It allows you to create software such as content management systems, user registration systems and e-commerce systems, among its many other uses. It also lets you extract data from many different types of databases,
process the data and output it onto a web page.

Visual InterDev - Microsoft Visual InterDev is the previous Microsoft's suite for creating ASP web applications. It has since been superseded by Microsoft Visual Web Developer (part of Visual Studio .NET), however it is still in widespread use. It allows a user to create Web forms, manage database connections and debug Web applications.

Web Design and Graphics - Concepts for designing and building Web sites. It considers the affect that various browsers, monitors, and systems can have on the display of a site. Additional topics covered in this series include the use of HTML and graphics for formatting and layout, and other useful tools such as frames, animated GIFs, dynamic HTML, JavaScript, QuickTime, Flash, and Shockwave.

WebSphere Studio - IBM's WebSphere is a Java-based Web application system. WebSphere Studio is the development environment for the WebSphere application server based on the open-source Eclipse development environment, also made by IBM. It features tight integration with Java's JDBC database system, code completion and lets you easily develop Java Server Faces, Enterprise JavaBeans and Java Servlets-based applications.

XML - XML is a general-purpose data structuring language with many, many uses. It encompasses a very wide range of standards, the best known being HTML (for Web pages), MathML (for writing mathematic equations), RSS (for content syndication) and SVG (for graphics). It is commonly used for communicating with databases, general data storage and transmission.
